Edinburgh, I Love You

“This is a city of shifting light, of changing skies, of sudden vistas. A city so beautiful it breaks the heart again and again.” – Alexander McCall Smith

Edinburgh, I love you.

I love how your gorgeous Gothic-style architecture took my breath away the first time I saw it. I love your winding, cobblestone alleyways. I love your eerie, dark, and fascinating history. I love how you don’t feel like a big city, and how easy it is to navigate your streets. I love the intangible energy that I feel when I walk through the city. I love the friendly locals. I love the view from Calton Hill. I love that there’s a castle in the middle of the city. edinburgh2edinburgh3I love how you look dark and dreary, yet somehow so stunningly beautiful at the same time. I love how I feel when I walk your streets: energized, wowed, inspired. I love your parks and green spaces. I love your Georgian terraces. I love your hidden closes. I love that I wouldn’t mind getting lost amongst your labyrinth-like alleys. I love bustling Princes Street and The Grassmarket. I love the striking Scott Monument. I love that I can hike an extinct volcano without leaving the city centre. I love the plethora of pubs, restaurants, and cafes. edinburgh4IMG_0658_Fotor_CollageIMG_0717I love that, even though I’ve never called you home, I feel homesick when I think of you. Until next time, Edinburgh.

Have you been to Edinburgh? Did you love it as much as I did?

Scotland is my Number One for countries I want to visit, and though I am going next year, I’m already insanely excited for it. Thank you for this little tease of a city that I miss even though I have never set foot in it! Do you plan to return soon?
